Community Owned Energy

Community Based Renewable Energy

Community Based Renewable Energy (CBRE) projects provide the benefits of renewable energy to people who do not have access to their own solar panels. Community members can become a "subscriber" of a renewable project and receive credits for the energy produced, which help save money on utility bills. Because the energy project is community owned, the money generated can be reinvested back into the community.

If a large group of people (and/or organizations) purchase solar together, the bulk purchase of materials can save everyone money.

Microgrids are a smaller version of a grid. They can be connected to a larger grid (with the ability to cut the connection) or can be unconnected, called “islanded.” They are typically used to provide resilience when the larger grid goes out, or for off-grid areas.

Non-profits can create their own CBRE projects to serve their community.
